2013-2015 Membership Information

The SLFC is a group of representatives from the food system who are working together to build a healthier food system for Sarnia-Lambton. We are currently looking for new members. 

Our goal:

To give Sarnia-Lambton residents control over a food system where everyone has access to and can afford to buy safe, nutritious, culturally acceptable food that is produced in an environmentally sustainable way and sustains our rural communities. 

What we do:

  • Build new partnerships and enhance networking between local food system stakeholders.
  • Identify, prioritize, and evaluate local food system needs and support related initiatives.
  • Identify and advocate for policy to support a healthier local food system.

Positions Available

The SLFC is looking for individuals with interest and/or experience in specific sectors of the food system. Applications are being accepted for these vacant membership positions (shaded positions are currently filled):

  • Agriculture - Organization
  • Agriculture - Producer (2)
  • Economic Development
  • Emergency Food/Food Access (2)
  • Food Distribution
  • Food Processing
  • General Community - Urban
     
  • General Community - Rural
  • Government - Municipal/County Council
  • Health - Nongovernmental Organization
  • Health - Public Health Services
  • Planning/Policy
  • Restaurant/Grocer/Farmers Market
  • Waste Management 

 SLFC members must:

  • Contribute expertise to food system issues in order to facilitate the development of a just and sustainable food system.
  • Support the mission and goal of the SLFC.
  • Endorse the Sarnia-Lambton Food Charter. Visit the Sarnia-Lambton Food Charter website to read and endorse it.
  • Commit to a 2-year term starting in September 2013.
  • Be available from 2:00-4:00 PM on the third Tuesday in February, May, September, and November for SLFC meetings. Specific meeting dates are listed on the membership application.

Successful candidates will:

  • Be passionate about improving the Sarnia-Lambton food system.
  • Have experience in and/or a general understanding of food systems, food security, regional food self-reliance and public policy for healthy communities. 
  • Be able to generate policy and action items for the SLFC to pursue.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Be able to actively participate in SLFC meetings and activities.
  • Be Lambton County residents, employed in Lambton County, or in the case of regional/rural organizations, have a strong interest or investment in the Sarnia-Lambton food system.
